Event Summary

Chingthur Foundation, with support from Azim Premji Foundation, conducted a two-day training and exposure programme at Heritage Home in Kingniu Village. Participants included community members from Ekhao, Pathso and Pathso Nokeng. The programme promoted sustainable agriculture, community ownership and appropriate rural technologies.

Mrs. Akeina Gonmei, Director of ECHO South Asia, facilitated a session on Asset-Based Community Development and the Community Corpus Fund. She encouraged participants to identify and use the knowledge, skills and resources already available within their communities. She also explained how small collective contributions can build a local fund for agreed development priorities and strengthen shared responsibility.

Mr. Lungaithui Malangmei, Programme Manager of Chingthur Foundation, led the session on compost-making from biomass. He explained how regular compost application can improve soil fertility and reduce dependence on chemical inputs. The programme included hands-on compost-making and field interaction. Biochar production could not be demonstrated because the required equipment was unavailable, but finished biochar was displayed and its use was explained.

Key Outcomes

Participants gained practical knowledge of community-led development, local resource mobilisation, compost production and biochar. The programme also encouraged participating villages to connect sustainable farming practices with long-term community planning and ownership.
