Event Summary

Chingthur Foundation conducted a practical compost-making session for its staff and two interns from North East Christian University. Mr. Lungaithui Malangmei, Programme Manager of Chingthur Foundation, led the training at the Agroforestry Training Centre in Karagaon.

Participants learned how to prepare compost from locally available materials. Dry organic matter, fresh green material and manure were arranged in repeated layers inside a designated enclosure. Each set of layers was moistened with a solution containing Indigenous Microorganisms to support decomposition, and the completed pile was covered to retain moisture and maintain suitable conditions for microbial activity.

The session combined explanation with hands-on work, enabling participants to understand both the method and the purpose of each stage. It also demonstrated how farm and household organic waste can be converted into a useful soil input rather than discarded.

Key Outcomes

The training strengthened practical skills in low-cost compost production. Regular use of well-prepared compost can improve soil fertility, recycle local biomass and reduce dependence on purchased agricultural inputs.
